Polymer chips introduced into inlet 5 and discharged into outlet 8 by rotor 1 are deflected by baffle 6 and by inclined surface 7 the latter being inclined greater than the angle of repose so as to avoid stoppages. The separation distance between rotor and casing is greater than 2 x the diameter of a particle.
