750,313. Drying apparatus. LEECH, L. A., and MILLARS' MACHINERY CO., Ltd. March 30, 1954 [March 30, 1953], No. 8676/53. Class 34(2). Drying apparatus for road making materials having a drum rotatable about a horizontal or slightly inclined axis, a feed chamber at the inlet end of the drum a discharge chamber 2 at the discharge end and a fan 20 for inducing a flow of drying gases through the drum has an expansion chamber 1 mounted above chamber 2 and connected to the interior of the drum to remove dust particles from the drying gases. the removed dust being returned to the processed material via a flap valve 5. Dust still airborne in the uptake 12 is extracted by a cyclone separator 19. In modifications two or more cyclone separators are coupled together. With drying apparatus working at high temperatures the expansion chamber may be applied to the feed end of the apparatus. The drum contains spiral baffle plates to assist in the initial retention of dust. Specifications 353,458 and 421,403, [Group XII], are referred to.
