Abstract
830,978. Winding thread. REINERS, W. June 1, 1956 [June 10, 1953], No. 16951/56. Class 120(2) A method of winding thread on a bobbin in an automatic bobbin changing winding machine, comprises presenting the leading thread end portion to a gripping device rotatable with the bobbin whereby the thread is automatically gripped upon commencement of rotation of the bobbin, releasing the gripped thread before the bobbin attains its normal winding speed and then deflecting the released thread end into the path of the thread leading to the bobbin so that the end becomes engaged by the thread and wound into the thread turns being formed on the bobbin. Fig. 2 shows a spindle head of an automatic winding machine. A hook 8 is provided at the forward end of a shaft 10 journalled in head 1 and a weight 9 is secured eccentrically on the rear end of said shaft and is formed with a projecting cam face 11. A spring 13 retains the weight 9 within a recess 14. In operation, during bobbin changing the thread is presented to the hook 8 and engaged therebehind. When the spindle head commences to rotate the thread is broken between the gripper 8 and a clamping device below the head 1 and at the same time a few turns are wound on the bobbin. When the speed of the spindle reaches a predetermined value the weight 9 swings out of recess 14 under centrifugal action, and, under the action of cam face 11 the shaft 10 and hook 8 move forwardly, i.e. to the right, so releasing the thread end. This end is then deflected by the base portion 3a of the bobbin outwardly so that the end is wound in with the next few turns wound on the bobbin. Shears may be provided for severing the thread instead of relying on it being broken by rotation of the bobbin. In other embodiments the shaft 10 and hook 8 are moved forwardly by electro-magnetic means; an external reciprocating member or an impeller means. In the latter case the air current from the impeller is used to blow the thread end into the path of the thread being wound on the bobbin.
