994,467. Stripping reserve windings from cops. W. REINERS. Sept. 28,1961 [Oct.13, 19601, No. 34883/61. Heading D1J. In a textile machine using yarn unwound from a cop with a reserve coil on one end, the cop before being unwound is supported in a magazine 10, Fig. 4, from which it is transferable to an unwinding position, means are provided to draw off the coil axially before the cop is so transferred and gripper means are also provided to hold the cop against axial movement while the coil is being drawn off. In Fig. 1, the gripping-means comprise cushions 2, 2<SP>1</SP>on arms 3, 3<SP>1</SP>secured to shafts 4,4<SP>1</SP> adapted to be rocked by belt cranks 5, 5<SP>1</SP>urged towards one another by a spring 6 and connected at 7, 7<SP>1</SP>to a lever 8 operated by a rod 9. In Fig. 3, the means comprise pivoted curved jaws 31, 32 connected at 34 to be movable to and fro by a double lever to which they are connected at 35. In Fig.4 cops arranged in a magazine 10 are supported by stops 11,12a. The lowermost cop has already had its reserve coil removed in a manner to be described; when it is required on the using machine, a rod 13 is operated to withdraw stop 12a so that the cop descends on to a stop 12e which is simultaneously projected. When the rod 13 is again operated to project the stop 12a to support the following cop, the stop 12e is withdrawn and the lowermost cop tilts about stop 11 to fall into a shoot 14. At the first operation of the rod 13 a contact is closed to energize a motor 16 to rotate a shaft 17 carrying four cams. The first 18 operates a contact 22 to lock-in the motor circuit; the second, 23, operates a double lever 24 to operate the cop-gripping means, the third, 25, operates a lever 26 controlling a device 27, 27<SP>1</SP> for stripping the reserve coil which is then held in a suction-tube 30, and the fourth, 36 operates a lever 37 for lifting the cop 1<SP>1</SP>off the lowermost one to facilitate its release. The fourth cam and its associated lifting means may be omitted.
