Abstract
855,958. Winding yarns. REINERS, W. Feb. 18, 1957 [Feb. 17, 1956], No. 5411/57. Class 120(2). An automatic or semi-automatic winding machine having means for automatically replacing each exhausted thread supply cop by a full cop, comprises a magazine, means to deliver full supply cops from said magazine individually to an unwinding station on the machine, and a member automatically operable to grasp the leading end of the thread on a full supply cop and to withdraw a portion of the thread from said cop before the latter is delivered to the unwinding station. In the embodiment shown the winding machine is generally of known construction but has an arm 13 pivoted at 14 and formed at its outer end with a thread grasping member 15 which conveniently is a suction nozzle. In operation, when the absence of thread F between the supply cop on pin 27 and the take up package 3, is detected in usual manner, the guide drum 2 is arrested and then turned in reverse direction. The empty cop is removed from pin 27 which is then rocked into the chain-lines position. At the same time stop arm 31 releases the lowermost cop 25b which slides down the inclined shoot 26a and is engaged by pin 27. Shaft 26 is then rocked to bring the pin 27 and the new supply cop into the unwinding position shown in full lines at 25. During this movement arm 9 is rocked downwardly from the full line position to the chain line position 9a. The arm 13 has already been rccked to the position 13a at which the thread grasping member 15 has withdrawn the thread turns 28 from the nose of the cop which is now in position 25 and the arm 13 has returned to its upper fullline position. The thread end from said cop therefore now extends over guide pin 24 as shown at F2 and consequently as arm 9 returns to its full line position the suction nozzle 11 will entrain thread end F2 and draw it towards the knot-tying device 35 In the meantime the trailing end on package 3 has been found by suction through arm 7 and also taken to the knot-tying device 35 where the tying operation then takes place. Once the foremost cop 25b in the magazine has been released from the stop arm 31 its place is taken by the next following cop, which is then in a position at which the leading turns 28 can be drawn off the cop by the grasping member 15 and held in readiness for the next cop changing operation.
