Abstract

830,385. Axial-flow fans. LIMIT ENGINEERING GROUP Ltd. Oct. 24, 1957 [Oct.26, 1956], No. 32800/56. Class 110 (1). In an axial-flow fan, two clamping members having concentric annular clamping faces are disposed respectively behind and in front of the fan blades, the annular faces being formed with co-operating shaped portions which grip and distort the blades when clamping pressure is applied. Fan blades B, of metal, laminated wood or laminated plastics, are clamped between the fan hub H and a clamping plate C which are drawn together by means of a nut N threaded on to a spigot 11. A hexagonal tunnel 13 allows the hub H to be held against rotation while the nut N is being tightened. A circular ridge 19 distorts the blade material and forces it partially into a circular groove 17. An inner flange on each blade helps to retain it against centrifugal force. The ridge 19 may be replaced by a series of upstanding pips or ribs. Discs or washers of a vibration-absorbing material, such as fibre, may be placed between each clamping face and the blades.
