Abstract

860,281. Axial-flow fans. ANDERSEN, A. H. Jan. 9, 1958, No. 869/58. Class 110 (1). Hemispherical or conical projections 7, Figs. 2 and 5, on the sides of the root portions 6 of radially-extending fan blades 5, engage peripheral grooves 4 in a pair of discs or rings 1. The blades are held in place by clamping bolts 3. The root portions 6 may be of rectangular or, as shown, parallelogrammic shape, and in the latter case adjacent root portions 6 are interlocked by means of hemispherical or conical projections 10 which engage corresponding recesses 11. Preferably, the root portions 6 are shaped as shown in Fig. 4 to fit the peripheral grooves 8 of the smallest size of discs 1 to be used, but can be accommodated in the grooves 9 of larger discs as shown. Distance pieces may be provided between adjacent root portions, and may be provided with hemispherical or conical retaining projections on their sides. The blades and discs may be die-cast from aluminium alloy or plastics, or the discs may be of stainless steel or other sheet material. Instead of being fastened directly to the shaft, the discs 1 may instead be in the form of rings bolted to a hub.
