Abstract
623,710. Screw fans. AEREX, Ltd., and REEVES, H. C. May 19, 1947, No. 13362. [Class 110(i)] In order that the centrifugal load in a fan having blades fixed in radial sockets may be taken directly by the hub and not by any peripheral shrouding the sockets are formed as short tubes secured to, and radially within the the periphery of, a circular metal hub disc or discs mounted on the shaft.The arrangement is primarily for fans having blades of adjustable pitch. In the form shown, the hub disc e is notched to rereceive the tubular sockets c, which are welded to the disc and receive the shanks b of the blades a. The disc e is bolted to a flange g welded on a hub sleeve h, which also carries similar flanges for the attachment of windage discs k fixed at their peripheries to flanges on a shrouding i. The blade shanks b are screwed into the sockets c. the lower ends of which are closed by press-fitted plates f; in a modification the shanks are plain, passing through the sockets and being held therein by collars or nuts on their inner ends. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), hub h is thicker, providing shoulders for attachment of the disc e and the discs k, and in a further form, Fig, 4 (not shown), two hub discs e are provided, the sockets, which have closed inner ends, being recessed in or secured between these discs according to the spacing of the latter.
