538,698. Balancing airscrews. HILLS & SONS, Ltd., F., and SYKES, N. April 30, 1940, No. 7710. [Class 114] For balancing an airscrew blade, balance weights are disposed around the longitudinal axis of rotation of the blade, static balance being obtained by varying the mass of the weights, and dynamic balance being obtained, without alteration of the static balance, by a re-distribution of the weights around said longitudinal axis. In the form shown, an annular flange a around the socket or root portion b of the blade is formed with a number of axially arranged holes c to receive balance weights in the form of screwed plugs d. The holes c may be arranged radially of the flange a, and further balance weights in the form of segments or complete rings may be secured to the flanges.
