Abstract

871,098. Compressor rotor blade mountings. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Feb. 10, 1960 [Feb. 11, 1959], No. 4658/60. Class 110 (3). An axial flow bladed rotor wheel such as a compressor wheel in which the blades are pivotally secured to the rotor wheel rim by pins has a flat sheet-metal annular ring coaxial with the rotor wheel and disposed between one side of the rotor wheel rim and the blade roots, the pins passing through the ring. Rotor blades 14 have roots comprising two tangs 20 which straddle the rotor wheel rim 22, the blades being pivotally secured to the rotor by pins 29 which pass through coaxial holes 24 and 26 in the tangs and rotor wheel rim respectively such that there is a clearance 44 between the rotor wheel rim 22 and the base 43 of the grooves 42 in the blade roots. A sheet-metal ring 32 is fitted between the downstream face of the rotor wheel rim and tangs 20 adjacent this face such that the castellations 50 fit closely between the edges of the blade roots, the ring being retained by the pins 29 which pass through holes 38. In operation the reaction loads force the downstream blade tangs 20 and the ring 32 against the downstream face of the rotor wheel rim so that the ring provides an effective seal and vibration damper.
