Abstract
638,856. Screw fans. WOODS OF COLCHESTER, Ltd., and DALY, B. B. July 21, 1948, No. 19528. [Class 110(i)] Adjustable runner blades are held between mating depressions in two plates, at least one of which is deformable under pressure. Cylindrical blade roots 11 are held between semicylindrical depressions 14, 18 in a hub plate 15 and clamping plate 19 respectively. Clamping bolts 21 pass through holes midway between adjacent depressions. The blade roots 11 are located radially by flanges 12 and 13, the latter seating between circumferential rims 9. Each flange 13 has a conical inner face and a spherical outer face which aligns with a spherical surface formed by the peripheries of plates 15 and 19. The hub 16 of the hub plate 15 may be made separately and secured thereto. The clamping plate 19 is preferably of ductile material, such as an aluminium alloy, and may be closed at its centre by a disc 20. Both plates may be unmachined die-castings and may be cast in the same dies, the part of the die forming the hub 16 being blanked off in the case of the plate 19. The runner blades may be light alloy die-castings, with unmachined roots.
