Class 59 A grinding mill has a rotor with a number of H- section beaters g secured detachably around its periphery by clamping means holding the webs of the beaters radially of the rotor, the crosspieces h, i of the beaters extending to either side of parts c projecting inwardly from the mill casing a. The webs of the beaters are sandwiched between plates e, f, bolted together and forming the rotor, with t h e flanges h projecting through holes in the plates. The beaters can be reversed endwise or to bring the flanges h to the outside of the flanges i in order to spread the wear evenly. A screen j is provided through which the fines are discharged to an annular passage k.
