737,253. Hammer mills. PAWERT AKT.-GES. Dec. 1, 1953 [Dec. 23, 1952], No. 33354/53. Class 59. In a hammer mill comprising a casing i containing at least two counter-rotating rotors carrying pivotally-mounted hammers e<SP>1</SP> to e<SP>4</SP>, the rotors comprise spoollike bodies to the flanges c of which are fixed baffle strips o to prevent material accumulating between the rotors and the casing and the hammers are arranged in groups on carrier pins d with a gap h or gaps h<SP>1</SP> in each group of hammers of such width as to form a continuous annular duct zone or zones around each rotor on rotation thereof, the zone or zones continuously drawing in parts of the material tossed around by the hammers so as to present the same repeatedly to the comminution zone between each two rotors. Each rotor carries at least two and not more than four groups of diametrically-arranged hammers. Other baffle strips are fixed to the walls of the casing. The casing comprises a detachable solid portion i<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, and a detachable perforated portion i<SP>2</SP> leading to a discharge hoodj connected to a suction line k. The portions i<SP>1</SP>, i<SP>2</SP> may be interchanged and the material discharged through a lateral suction duct k<SP>1</SP>.
