[Also in Divisions B8 and F1] A pneumatically driven orbiting mass generator of sonic elastic waves comprises a housing 150 having inwardly extending C-shaped portions 154a, 154b between the ends of which are freely movable cylindrical members 159a to 159b ; and a rotor 18 having a central circular portion 151 and outer annular portions 152 joined by a web 153. Compressed air from an inlet 157 enters the crescent-shaped cavities 163, 164 and causes the rotor to rotate anticlockwise, whereby it rolls clockwise round the race 168. The air exhausts at 160.
