Abstract
A rotary grinder for bulk material has two compartments both rotating about a horizontal axis, the first compartment for coarse material and the second for fine material. The first compartment (10) is short in length and large in diameter and carries breaker members on its end faces (14, 16), material being fed in through the middle of the first face (14), and passing through a grid (30) on the opposite face, into the adjacent chamber (18) which is longer, and of smaller diameter, and which contains grinding spheres. The material is forced from one compartment to the other, and out of the end of the second compartment by a flow of air which also dries the charge. The two compartments are mounted on shoes or bearings positioned to produce the minimum bending moment on their walls.
