Impact pulverizers. - Relates to mills o the type in which coal or the like is ground or pulverized in a series of mill-compartments by high-speed rotary beating members and at the same time intimately mixed with air. The chambers of the mill are provided with internal armouring consisting of round rods which are arranged around the cylindrical walls of the compartments so as to be capable of rotation under the action of the impact thereon of the material being pulverized. As shown, Figs. 1 and 2, the iron rods 17 are disposed in loose contact with each other and with their ends in grooves 17<a> in the end walls of the chamber 1 and in the annular partitions 12, 13, 14 between the chambers 7 - - 10. The centra] shaft 3 carries discs 6 with beating arms or plates 5 movable about pivot-pins 23 which are made without projecting parts. The chambers 7 - - 10 are of equal diameter, but the diameters of the discs 6 increase from the inlet chamber 7 to the chamber 10. The pulverizing casing 1 and the fan casing 18 are made in two parts, the upper part being hinged to the lower part and secured by a locking bolt 22. An adjustable damper 24 and a rotary valve 26 are provided for regulating the air supply, so that a mixture of coal dust and air may be fed by the fan 19 through the discharge pipe 20 direct to a furnace.
