Abstract

Charging.-In a rotary projector charger for gas retorts of the type in which the rotor comprises side discs b spaced apart by radial propelling blades 5 the feed hopper 6 is formed with a vertical wall arranged tangentially to the rotor casing, and on this wall is fixed a deflector 7 which directs the coal into the space between the inner edges of the blades 5 and the shaft 4. The supply of fuel from the hopper is controlled by a slide 8 arranged approximately at right angles to the deflector. The blades are fixed to the discs by pairs of bolts m, s, the outer bolt s of each pair being of small diameter so that it will break under etcessive strain and allow the blade to pivot on the bolts m. The outlet spout f has adjustable upper and lower walls, and the casing is formed with inspection and access openings closed by doors or plates 14, 14a and 15. The width of the blades 5 is preferably somewhat less than the depth of the inner end of the outlet spout.
