Abstract

Natural or synthetic fibres or yarns or woven or knitted fabrics or textile articles are impregnated with an aqueous solution of an alkali or alkaline-earth metal chlorite which contains chloral hydrate. The solution may also contain hydrogen peroxide and may be adjusted to a pH of 7 to 10 with acetic or formic acid. The materials are placed in the solution, which is activated by heating to between 75 DEG and 100 DEG C. or, after impregnation and removal of excess liquid, the material may be briefly heated, e.g. with steam, and placed in a storage chamber.
