Abstract

823,607. Valves. COMPANIA INDUSTRIALIZADORE DE INVENTOS SOCIEDAD DE RESPONSABILIDAD LIMITADA. March 16, 1956, No. 8293/56. Class 135. A flushing valve comprises a casing 2 to which a cover 7 is attached by means of a screwed ring 8 in such a way as to clamp the edges of a diaphragm 9. The cover 7 and diaphragm 9 define a damping chamber 10 having an inlet 3 and an outlet 4 which are normally closed by the diaphragm 9 which in this closing position rests against an annular metallic grid member 5 the openings 6 of which are located in the outlet 4. In its open position the diaphragm 9 rests against a second annular metallic grid member 5<SP>1</SP>. A hermetically sealed body, e.g. a rubber ball 11 is located in the chamber 10. An intermediate chamber 12 in the cover 7 is normally closed by a spring- loaded valve closure member 13 the actuating stem 16 of which has a knob or button 17. The inlet pipe 3<SP>1</SP> is connected to the chamber 10 by a passage 20, an adjustable regulating valve 21, 22 and a passage 24 the outlet of which is located below the normal liquid level in the chamber 10. In operation, the button 17 is depressed to open the chamber 12 whereupon the liquid in the chamber 10 passes to the outlet pipe 4<SP>1</SP>. The drop in pressure in the chamber 10 allows diaphragm to be moved from member .5 to member 5<SP>1</SP> so connecting the inlet 3 to the outlet 4. When the button 17 is released the spring 15 returns the closure member 13 to its closed position. Liquid now passes from the inlet 3<SP>1</SP> via passage 20, regulating valve 21, 22 and passage 24 into chamber 10. The diaphragm 9 returns to its seat 3<SP>11</SP> in a series of dying oscillations the blows not being transmitted to the entry pipe 3<SP>1</SP> but being absorbed by the air cushion in the chamber 10.
