769,057. Valves. TRUBERT, R. May 23, 1955, No. 14841/55. Class 135. A valve 6, situated on the outlet side of its seat 4 and urged to the closed position by a spring 7, is opened by means of a piston forming one end of a telemotor link 16, and the other end of the link is constituted by a piston 19 which is located in the floor and is operated by a pedal 22. The stem 13 of valve 6 is a loose fit in the hollow stem 12 of a piston 10 so that, in the position shown, make-up liquid from the inlet 2 can flow into the telemotor link through the space between stems 12, 13 and an aperture 15 in the piston 10. When the pedal is depressed, piston 10 is first advanced until it engages a flange 14 on valve stem 13 so as to shut off the connection between the telemotor link and the fluid inlet. If the valve 6 is carried directly by piston 10, liquid seeps into the telemotor link around the edge of the piston itself. Pedal 22 carries a ring 27 of flexible material, and when the pedal 22 is depressed, air trapped thereunder escapes through vent holes 26. A vent passage 24 runs through piston 19, but the upper end of this passage is normally closed by a gasket 25.
