Abstract
766,865. Valves. COLLINS, J. E. March 25, 1955 [Jan. 10, 1955], No. 8790/55. Class 135. A valve comprises a body 10, a sleeve 25 positioned in a bore to the valve body, a passageway 11 leading from the outside to the interior of the sleeve, outwardly-facing valve seats 35, 36 positioned in the sleeve, one on each side of passage-way 11, a stem 44 provided with shoulders 45, 46 which act as valve closure members and co-operate with the seat, and removable covers 75 over the two ends of the valve body. After a cover has been removed, the valve stem and the sleeve can be taken out of the body through that end. In the valve shown, the passage-way 11 constitutes an inlet and two outlet passage-ways 12, 13 communicating with the interior of the sleeve are also provided. The top cover carries a yoke 56 which, at its upper end, supports a diaphragm 62 which actuates the stem. Fluid under pressure for actuating the diaphragm is applied to the latter through an inlet 66 in a cover which is bolted over the diaphragm and forms a control chamber in co-operation therewith. The upper part of the stem is screwed into a plate 50 which abuts against the diaphragm 62 and the whole device is loaded by a spring 53 which abuts at its lower end against a washer 54 supported from the yoke 56 and, at its upper end, against a washer 52 carried by the upper end of the stem. The sleeve is packed as illustrated at 27.
