Abstract

694,155. Valves. BRODIE CO., R. N. Dec. 12, 1951 [Oct. 20, 1951], No. 29133/51, Class 135 A slow-closing, shut-off valve for liquids comprises a cylinder 25 closed to the outlet end 21 of the valve and supported within the valve housing by ribs 23 leaving annular liquid passages 27, and a piston 29 slidable in the cylinder to control communication between the inlet and outlet through the passages 27. The piston is moved to open position against a spring 31 by a lever 53 and during such movement excess pressure in the cylinder is relieved by a spring-loaded valve 43 seating on the piston. Closing movement of the piston, either manually through the lever 53, or in step-by-step fashion under the control of latch mechanism, is at a rate controlled by passage of liquid from the inlet through a passage 65 incor-. porating an adjustable valve (not shown) to the cylinder 25. A seating for the piston, and a seal between the piston and cylinder are provided by sealing rings 39 and 63.
