Abstract

972,206. Valves. K. EHLERS. April 19, 1963 [April 19, 1962], No. 15444/63. Heading F2V. A petrol filling nozzle is provided with a valve seat 3 for a plate or conical closure member 4. A member 8a, fixed to a hollow spindle 7, serves as an abutment for a spring 8 to urge the member 8a towards the closure 4. A second spring 9 acts between the member 8a and the closure 4. A stem 20 is located in the spindle 7, the stem and spindle being provided with notch 22 and aperture 21, respectively, which are aligned in the closed position of the valve and two rollers 24 movable in slots 25 of a yoke normally couple the stem and spindle. The yoke is connected to a diaphragm 26, loaded by a spring 30, the diaphragm forming an upper chamber 31 which is connected to a passage 27 opening at the spout 2 of the nozzle and two passages 28, 28a and 29 opening adjacent the valve seat 3. The underside of the diaphragm is connected through the space between the stem and spindle, passages 35b and passage 35c to the space adjacent the seat. The valve is opened by a lever 6 which acts on the stem 20 through a roller 17 and through thecoupling, with draws the spindle 7 to compress the spring 8. The fluid pressure at the inlet then opens the valve 4. The fluid flowing past the valve creates a suction at the passages 29, 35c and air is drawn through the passage 27 and the space below the diaphragm is maintained at a reduced pressure. When the end of the passage 27 is closed by the rising level of the liquid, the subsequent reduction of pressure in the chamber 31 raises the diaphragm 27 to move the rollers 24 out of the notch 22 of the stem, thus allowing the spindle 7 to move under the action of the spring 8 to close the valve. A spring 36 between the stem and spindle brakes the movement of the spindle 7. When the lever 6 is released the stem 20 moves to the right and the rollers 24 re-engage the notch ready for the next actuation. The arm 15 carried by the lever 6 passes through a seal 18. The lever 6 is forked and attached to two pivots which do not extend through the seal 18.
