718,662. Manually-actuated valves. MOEN, A. M; Aug. 13, 1952, No. 20343/52. Class 135 A mixing faucet comprises a body with hot and cold water inlets 18, 19, controlled by a piston type valve or sleeve 24, which is rotated by a lever 80 to control the proportion of hot and cold water in the mixture, and which is moved axially to control the volume of outflow of the mixture through a mixing chamber 49, a centrally-apertured member 20 slidably guiding the valve stem 25 at 52 and forming an outlet at 56 controlled by a stem shoulder 40. Upward movement of the lever 80, which is pivoted at 96 on a block 90 rotatable on the top of the member 20 and retained within a rotatable housing 60 carrying the spout 70, unseats the valve 40 from the outlet 56 and brings a slot 26 in the hollow sleeve 24 into line with the inlets, so that rotation of the sleeve brings the slot to varying extents into communication with both of the inlets. The sleeve is secured between a stem shoulder 31 and a ridged cap 33 engaging a groove in the stem and sleeve so that the sleeve can align itself in the body. The valve may be formed by a slotted sleeve secured around the widened, hollow, slotted lower end of the stem, or by a slotted sleeve secured to a solid, widened, lower end.
