Abstract

1,093,492. Valves. J. BOLDING & SONS Ltd. Sept. 18, 1964 [June 19, 1963], No. 24322/63. Heading F2V. A mixer tap comprises a hollow tap body 1 with cold and hot water chambers 8, 9 adjacent one end and a removable closure member at the other, an outlet 26, 27 providing communication between the chambers and a mixing chamber 24, an outlet pipe 25 communicating with the mixing chamber, valve members 42, 43 associated with the outlets, a bridging member 39 coupling the two valve members together, an operating spindle 16 having a screw-threaded, connection with the bridging member whereby rotation of the spindle moves the valve members from an off position through intermediate positions in which cold water only and a mixture of cold and hot water, respectively can flow into the mixing chamber, - to an end position in which the cold water port is closed and the hot water port is open, the pitch of the screw-threaded connection being such that movement between the off and end positions is effected by not more than one third of a turn of the spindle, a handle 23 secured to the spindle and a hollow pillar 5 joined to the tap body. The outlet pipe 25 terminates in a plain jet nozzle or a spray nozzle. Hot and cold water pipes pass through the pillar 5 which has a screw thread 7 for mounting in a sink. A twostart square thread having a pitch of 0.25 inch may be provided between the bridging member and the spindle which is secured to a circular rotatable cover 21 carrying the handle 23.
