Abstract
708,090. Steam traps. YARNALLWARING CO. Jan. 7, 1952, No. 505/52. Class 64(2) Relates to steam traps as for example described iri Specification 648,687 having spaced inlet and outlet orifices 28, 31 and an intermediate control chamber 43 through which discharge of condensate takes place under the control of interconnected valves 24, 25 at a rate determined by the pressure in the chamber. According to the present invention, the valves are mounted on a lever 23 with a fulcrum 44 at one end in the form of a knife edge or fixed pivot pin, the lever extending across the valve seats 36, 41 and the free end 53 of the lever engaging in its lowest position the valve plate 21 to preclude complete closures of the valves, and being guided on a rod 56. The inlet valve 24 is of tapered or bulbous form and the outlet valve of disc form, both valves being adjustable on the lever for initial setting. The positioning of the valves on the lever and the shaping of the valve 24 are such that the ratio of inlet valve area to outlet valve area remains constant (e.g. 2:1) as the valves open and close. The trap shown comprises a' body portion 30, the valve plate 21 and a lid 22, copper jointing rings 35, 42 being provided for sealing when the parts of the trap are bolted together. Fig. 6 shows the inlet valve provided with an impulse disc 70 to increase the force tending to open the valve.
