597,771. Safety cut-off valves. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., EVES, E. W., and AUSTEN, C. R. Aug. 27, 1945, No. 21893. [Class 135] In a gas cut-off valve of the kind comprising a closure member 5 supported by a weighted diaphragm exposed on its upper side to atmospheric pressure and on its lower side to the gas pressure in the outlet pipe 3, the closure member is re-opened. after closure by a spring- loaded, apertured slide 15 which, when moved by hand against the spring, tilts the closure member in its seat to permit gas to flow gradually from the inlet 2 to the space beneath the diaphragm where the pressure builds up until it is sufficient to open the valve. The upward movement of. the closure member is limited by the nut 8 on the closure member spindle contacting with the slide. The slide may be remotely operated through a rod.
