Abstract
704,342. Fluid-actuated valves. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Dec. 18, 1951 [Jan. 2, 1951; Jan. 12, 1951], Nos. 117/51 and 878/51. Class 135 A valve comprises a fluid-tight chamber 1 having a pressure fluid connection 2, two coaxial, axially spaced tubular valve members 4a, 5a in the chamber and having a pressure fluid connection at least one being slidable in a wall of the chamber, a sleeve 10 coaxial with and overlapping the adjacent ends of the members and slidable inside or outside the valve members, and carrying an annular seating ring 11 for the ends of the valve members with fluid passages 12 on opposite sides of the ring, and means for moving at least one of the valve members axially to and from the ring. Pressure fluid enters at 2 and leaves through the sleeve and valve members, the latter being stepped so that inlet pressure acting on the chamfered ends is balanced. When the sleeve slides on the outside of the valve members the ring is carried internally and the pressure fluid enters via the valve members and leaves by the connection 2. The valve in Fig. 3 (not shown) is incorporated in a diaphragm actuated pressure regulating and relief valve. The first Provisional Specification describes a pressure reducing valve actuated by a spring-loaded piston, and a valve in which one valve member is moved by an operating rod to open the valve and the other member is moved by a spring-loaded piston when exposed to fluid pressure through the member to close the valve.
