Class 135 In a valve 6, urged to the closed position by a spring 13 and opened by a rise in the pressure of the fluid at the inlet 4, and formed with a chamber 14 connected by a duct or ducts 15 with the exterior of the valve in such manner that, in the closed position of the valve, the chamber is under inlet pressure communicated through the ducts 15 but, in the open position, the outer end of ducts 15 are situated in the most restricted part of the passage leading from the inlet to the outlet side of the valve, the valve casing consists of a tubular member reduced in diameter at 5 to provide the valve seat and an inlet chamber 3 of lesser diameter than the outlet chamber, the chamber 14 is constituted by a sleeve carried by the valve and sliding over a piston rod 9 depending from the top cap of the valve casing, and the valve also carries guiding webs 7 extending into the inlet chamber. As soon as flow takes place past the valve, the fluid pressure in chamber 14 which helps to load the valve towards the closed position will be lessened. The piston 9 is provided with sealing packing 10. The contacting surfaces of the valve and its seat may be rounded, as shown, or coned.
