Abstract
820,065. Thermionic cathode constructions. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 21, 1955 [Oct. 22, 1954], No. 30118/55. Class 39(1). A thermionic cathode structure includes a cup-shaped member of thin metal foil with one or more side pieces extending along its length and the layer of emissive material located adjacent the end face. The cathode may be directly or indirectly heated. In the directly-heated case the foil member has two or more side arms 15, 16, Fig. 3, forming the heater leads ; or a central lead 29, Fig. 6, may be positioned within a foil cup 28. In the indirectly-heated case a similar member 18, Fig. 4, may be used to heat a cup cathode 19 ; or a foil cup 32, Fig. 7, may be backed by an insulating disc 35 on which is deposited (a) a heater film 36 with a central lead 37 or (b) a filamentary heater with one or two leads and of various zig-zag, spiral or cross shapes, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown).
