Abstract

817,279. Valve oscillators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 21, 1955, No. 30186/55. Class 40 (6). [Also in Group XL (b)] A microwave oscillator comprises a valve surrounded by a conductive member which forms the outer wall of a grid-anode resonator and which is itself surrounded by a record conductive member which together with first member forms the outer and inner walls of a grid-cathode resonator, the first conductive member carrying an inwardly extending flange spaced by an insulating layer from an outwardly extending flange carried by the anode, to provide capacitive coupling between the resonators. The Figure shows a valve comprising a cathode 3, grid 4 and anode 5 mounted in a grid-cathode resonator 12, 15, 11, 16, 14, 9, 13, the member 12 being connected to the cathode contact sleeve 6 and the member 13 being connected to the grid contact ring 8. The anode and grid are connected to a resonator comprising the inner end of member 9, a flange 22 and the cap member 13. The flange 22 and cap 13 are spaced by an insulator 23 to provide sufficient capacitive coupling between the cavities to sustain oscillation. It is suggested that the grid-anode cavity operates in a radial or intermediate mode while the grid-cathode cavity operates in a higher coaxial mode. It is also suggested that the cathode contact ring 6 could be inserted directly in the end wall 15 of the outer resonator. Specification 755,985, [Group XL (a)], is referred to.
