Abstract

A water-emulsifiable composition consists of an oil, preferably mineral oil, a liquid sulphonation product as primary emulsifying agent, and tri-butoxy ethyl phosphate as secondary emulsifying agent. When mixed with water a transparent emulsion is formed. As liquid sulphonating agent there may be used petroleum sulphonates or sulphonated amines. Twitchell oil may replace the mixture of mineral oil and sulphonated products. In examples, mineral lubricating oil, seal oil, kerosene, fuel oil or a mixture thereof, is admixed with a neutralized petroleum sulphonate, alkyl acyl sulphonate, isopropyl amine dodecyl benzene sulphonate or turkey red oil and up to 20 per cent by volume of tributoxy ethyl phosphate. Optional additions are alkyl aryl ether-alcohols, isopropyl amide of oleic acid, glycol and glycol ethers. The composition may be used for detecting flaws in castings as described in Specification 763,885, [Group XL (a)].
