Abstract

Liquid fuel is prepared for combustion by adding thereto one or more compounds which reduce the surface tension of the fuel and increases its surface viscosity to such an extent that, when mixed with air, the fuel is resolved into fuel foam. Compounds used are a monovalent alcohol having at least 8 carbon atoms, a cyclic alcohol, a condensation product of a fatty alcohol, a phenol or a fatty acid and ethylene oxide, a condensation product of a fatty acid and an amino-alkyl-sulpho acid, or a polyalkylene oxide. The alcohol may be an arylethyl alcohol, such as phenyl-ethyl alcohol. High viscosity mineral oils, fatty oils, amines, soaps and water may be present in the fuel. The fuel foam may be formed by shaking, stirring or drawing air through the fuel by means of a frit. The fuel may be used in I.C. engines and combustion plants and Diesel fuels and benzene-containing fuels are referred to.
