Abstract

A fuel composition comprises gasoline having a 20 per cent A.S.T.M. distillation point below 165 DEG F., and containing 0.001 to 1 per cent by weight of either (1) an ammonium salt of a sulphonic acid having a molecular weight from 300 to 600 and obtained by sulphonation of a mineral oil; or (2) the sodium salt of a sulphonic acid having a molecular weight from 300 to 600 and obtained by the sulphonation of a heavy alkylate or a mineral oil. The heavy alkylate may be dodecyl benzene. In examples gasoline contains the sodium salt of the sulphonate of a mineral oil, and tetraethyl lead. Specification 743,842 is referred to.
