Abstract

A lubricating composition, suitable for addition to gasoline to produce a fuel for a two stroke engine, comprises a mineral lubricating oil, obtained from a petroleum distillate and having a viscosity in the range 180-250 secs. Redwood I at 140 DEG F. and a viscosity index of at least 80, and a minor proportion of an additive consisting of a blend of a sulphurized divalent metal alkyl phenate or thiophenate with an alkaline earth petroleum mahogany sulphonate. In order to render it more easily miscible with gasoline, the lubricating composition may contain additionally up to 50% by weight, based on the composition, of kerosine. In an example, the additive incorporated in the mineral lubricating oil is "Paranox" 64 GB" which is believed to be a blend of sulphurized barium iso-octyl phenate and calcium mahogany sulphonate (the word "Paranox" is a Registered Trade Mark), and the lubricating composition is added to a gasoline containing 2 ml. TEL/Imperial gallon. The effect of using other mineral lubricating oils is described. Specification 727,655 is referred to.
