Abstract

810,135. Hatch covers. MACGREGOR, J, and BRIGGS, A., [Representatives of MACGREGOR, R.] Jan. 9, 1957 [April 17, 1956], No. 11658/56. Class 113. A means for opening a ship's hatch covers comprised of at least one pair of hingedtogether cover sections. e.g. first pair of cover sections 2, 2a linked to a second pair of cover sections 3, 3a comprises a single length of cable 9 anchored to studs 10 on each side of the section 3 which passes around sheaves 11, provided on each side of the section 2, before extending upwardly to pass around further sheaves 12, 13 and 14, and over roller 15 to terminate in a loop 16. A continuous pull is imparted in the cable to move the sections towards the stowing end of the hatch where pins 18 provided on the section 2 engage a pair of sockets 17 causing the first pair of sections 2, 2a to hinge and stow as shown in Fig. 1 and on engagement of the pins 18 of the section 3 with a second pair of sockets 17, the second pair of sections 3, 3a will fold and stow in a similar manner. A back-haul cable 20 connected to studs 21 projecting from each side of the sections 3a passes around swivel blocks 22 at each corner of the hatch remote from the cover stowing end, and is looped to a shackle 23. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 631,003.
