Abstract

803,673. Seats. GREAVES & THOMAS, Ltd., and COBB, W. R. Jan. 18, 1957 [Jan. 19, 1956], No. 1822/56. Class 52(2) A reclining chair has the seat member 12 at a position towards its rear edge, and the back member 16 at a position adjacent its lower edge, pivoted at spaced points on fixed horizontal axes 11, 15 respectively, the adjacent rear edge of the seat and lower edge of the back being interconnected by a single link 19. Preferably, the chair is provided with a foot rest automatically moved from a vertical to a substantially horizontal position when the back and seat move to a reclining position. As shown in Fig. 1, the foot rest 21 is linked to a front cross member 22 of the chair frame by a form of lazy-tong linkage actuated by a link 24 pivoted to the underside of the seat and to member 26 of the lazy-tong linkage. In Fig. 4 the foot rest is pivoted directly to the seat and linked to the cross bar 22 by members 42, 44. The member 44 may be dispensed with and member 42 be made to abut a roller fixed to the chair frame so that on raising the seat the foot rest is pivoted to a horizontal position.
