802,826. Cartons. TAYLOWE, Ltd. Feb. 21, 1957 [March 5, 1956], No. 6882/56. Class 18. A folding cardboard box has a structure 2 of integral panels, which can be folded to form a hinged lid closure but when extended constitutes a display surface wider than the box, inclined so as to embrace the rear portion of the box. The box is made up from blanks 1 and 2 ; tabs 5 are stitched to rear wall 6 and flaps 3a, 4a and 6a are interlocked to form the base. In the open position, the uncut portion of the blank 2 extends up and back from crease 7, while panels 10a at the sides of the cut-out portion extend down and forward embracing box side walls 4, being joined at their lower ends by a strip 2a. To close the lid, the cut-out portion is swung back and up to lie against the uncut portion, both portions then being swung down together on to the box. In a modification, Figs. 4-7 (not shown), the lid-forming blank has extra panels which enable the rear end of the box to be elevated for display in the open position, one such panel engaging behind tabs such as 5 or in a slot in the rear wall. The tabs 5 may have extensions 5a which assist in retaining the lid in the display position.
