Abstract

810,972. Boxes. BREHMER FOLDING BOX CO. Ltd., and THOMPSON, H. H. Dec. 13, 1955 [Dec. 21, 1954; April 4, 1955 ; June 14, 1955], Nos. 36967/54, 9824/55 and 17125/55. Class 18. A box is made from a single blank 1 of corrugated paper board which is cut at 2, 3 to form flaps 4, 5, 6, 7 extending solely in two directly opposed directions from the uncut portion 8, 9 of the blank, flaps 5, 7 having scored lines 10, dividing them into panels 5a, 5b, 5c and 7a, 7b, 7c. The flaps 6, 7 are folded up at right angles to panel 9 and the portions 7b, 7c are bent round to form a tubular frame with the flaps 6, 7c abutting. This frame is then turned through 90 degrees, so that panel 8 forms a base ; as the frame is turned flap 4 is folded up inside the frame to lie adjacent portion 7c. Flap 5 is then folded up so that the portion 5a lies adjacent portion 7a to which it is secured by staples 12 and portion 5b forms a lid having a tuck-in flap 5c. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 of the first Provisional Specification, the blank has three flaps on each side, the flaps 6a, 6b, 9a, 9b being bent up to form the open-ended frame with the flaps 6b, 9b abutting, the frame being turned through 90 degrees to the position shown. The article or articles are then inserted in this open frame which is then turned through 90 degrees in a direction at right angles to the previous turn, the parts then being in the position shown in Fig. 4, after which the flaps 7a, 7b and 10 are folded to surround the frame. The frame is then folded forwardly about score line 15 and the flaps 8a, 8b, 8c and 11 are folded around the frame to form the completed box, which is sealed along one edge. Further flaps may be provided on the blank to reinforce the box. In a further modification. Fig. 2 of the second Provisional Specification intermediate flaps 6a, 9b form partitions within the box and are slotted at 16, 17. The frame is turned down through 90 degrees on to the portion 15 the parts 10a, 10b, 10c and 5a folded round the frame, and the flaps 5b, 10d tucked into the slots 16, 17 thus dividing the box into six compartments.
