Abstract

800,864. Mineral-mining apparatus. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. July 30, 1956 [Aug. 2, 1955], No. 22163/55. Class 68(1) A mineral-mining machine for stall and pillar mining comprises a carriage 17 that can travel along a mine roadway, a frame' 21 so mounted on the carriage that it can be reciprocated in a direction at right angles to the movement of the carriage, at least two interconnected parallel push rods detachably secured to the frame and formed of interconnected sections 27 so as to be of variable length, and a closed loop cutting head detachably seured to the ends of the rods remote from the frame. The head comprises a frame on which is mounted two pilot drills 1 associated with mushroom-shaped cutters, an endless chain cutter 4. Spring-loaded blocks 15 mounted on the frame engage the bore being excavated to guide the head therein. A scraper chain conveyer 12 of fixed length is secured to and advances with the head to receive and deliver disintegrated mineral from guide surfaces 13 in the head to an endless belt conveyer 34, that advances and withdraws in step with the head.
