Abstract
1293342 Mineral-mining methods K GREBE 9 Dec 1969 [10 Sept 1968] 43056/68 Heading E1F Mineral is mined from a mineral seam to a desired depth 20 by an advancing longwall mining apparatus comprising a pair of spaced apart cutting machines 10, 12 interconnected by an endless cutting chain 14 driven by at least one of the machines and on the apparatus approaching this depth the apparatus is swung whilst still cutting mineral from ahead of itself about an upright axis at or near one of its ends through an angle of up to 180‹ to, in the case of a swing angle of 90‹, be moved endwise through a gate road to the line of the original face 22 before being moved along this face 22 for another cut into the seam or to cut back through the seam, in which case the swing angle is preferably 180‹.
