Abstract

1391484 Mining mineral GULLICK DOBSON Ltd 12 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 13973/72 Heading E1F In a method of mineral mining a selfpropelled mining machine travels across a mineral face 10, substantially parallel to a line of mine roof supports 12, in a path defined by means, such as a rail 27 or a conveyor, connected to the supports, and the supports are advanced behind the machine towards the face, as the machine passes by an amount which is a fraction of the thickness of the web of mineral removed. The supports are advanced by means of hydraulic rams connecting them to the rail, and roof support bars 19 are extended. Then the rams are extended to advance the rail, which is in pivotally connected sections, retracted to draw the supports forwards (the bars 19 being retracted or forced in by the face) and extended again to place the rail in position for a further traverse by the machine. The roof supports may be as described and claimed in Specification 1387311.
