[Also in Division E1] An anchor station positioned in the roadway of a mine is advanced by means of two parallel beams 1, 2 disposed one above the other and each guided by the frame 10 of the anchor station for movement relative thereto in the longwall and roadway directions respectively. The beam 2 with skids 8 is normally braced against the longwall side roadway face 3, but for advancement of the anchor station the beam 1 with skids 9 is extended in the longwall direction to engage the roadway face 3 and thereby release the beam 2 for advancement in the roadway direction. The beam 1 is then retracted and the beam 2 re-engages the roadway face 3 whereby the anchor station may then be advanced. The movement of the beams is achieved by hydraulic rams 5, 5<SP>1</SP> and 6 suitably mounted on the frame 10. The frame 10 is mounted on skids 11, 12 the skid 11 having means 13 to receive pit props 14 which are only utilized in special cases e.g. for the replacement of conveyer channels.
