Abstract

918,024. Endless conveyers; hydraulic jacks. BEUKENBERG, H., and BEUKENBERG, H., [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK GLUCKAUF G. KLERNER]. April 27, 1959 [April 25, 1958], No. 14372/59. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] Two pairs of hydraulic props are used in advancing a conveyer towards a working face. As shown, an I-section guide beam 5 extends through a slide 9 connected to one end of the beam by a piston-and-cylinder motor 12. An hydraulic prop 8 is pivotally mounted on each end of the beam. Also associated with the beam is a base 16 provided with two hydraulic props 17, the beam and base being connected by a further piston-and-cylinder motor 18. A rigid arm 22 fixed to the beam and displaceably supported on the base 16 or on the side of the motor 18 causes the base to advance towards the working face when the slide 9 is advanced along the beam 5. The upper end of the conveyer is supported on a plate 15 extending from the slide. Assuming initially that the props 8 have been extended to secure the beam 5 and the props 17 are retracted, the motor 12 is now actuated and the slide 9, together with the base 16, is advanced towards the working face. The props 17 are then operated and the base pressed against the floor. Advantageously, before the extension of the props 17, the motor 18 is actuated so that the base 16 is moved to its maximum distance from the slide 9. When the props 17 are extended, the conveyer can be moved by the motor 18 towards the upper end of the wall 1, the props 8 having been retracted. During actuation of the motor 18 or immediately subsequent thereto, the motor 12 is again actuated and the beam 5 is advanced and then secured by extension of the props 8. Hydraulic prop construction.-In Fig. 7, an inner part 24 is guided in an outer part 23 and is moved upwardly by hydraulic medium supplied through a pipe 25, against the action of a spring 26. A head 27 is connected by a ball-and-socket joint to the inner part 24, and the outer part 23 is pivoted at 28 to the prop base. Springs 29 between the base and the outer part are adjusted so that the prop normally extends obliquely. In a modification, Fig. 8, the outer part 23 is connected through a ball-and-socket-like connection 30 to a baseplate 31. A ring 32 which may be of rubber, causes the prop to extend obliquely. An hydraulic system for actuating and controlling the props is described (see Group XXIX).
