Abstract

885,293. Mine roof supports. DOBSON Ltd., W. E. & F. Dec. 1, 1958 [Dec. 12, 1957], No. 38610/57. Class 20(2) A mine roof support comprising hydraulic props 3 mounted on a base 1 and a channel roof bar 4 has a cantilever 8 pivoted at 10 to the bar 4 and braced against the mine roof by a lever 11 comprising two parallel plates either side of a pin 9 to which they are pivoted, the plates being joined by bridges 12, 13. A piston and cylinder 15 seated on the bridge 13 and bears on a plate 4a on the bar 4 to pivot the lever 11 around its pin 9 so that its bridge 12 bears on the underside of the cantilever 8 pivoting it upwards about its pin 10. The cylinder 15 is operated by fluid from the props 3 via a pipe 17 when they are extended to support the roof. The slot for the pin 9 is elongated to allow for lateral movement of the lever 11.
