Abstract

1,091,312. Conveyers; mine roof supports. K. M. GROETSCHEL. Dec. 21, 1964 [Dec. 21, 1963], No. 51783/64. Heading B8A. As shown a conveyer 9 or other anchorage member has already been advanced towards a newly exposed coal face, as have also roof supports 1d, 1c. In respect of a support 1b not yet advanced a guiding device comprising interconnected side members 26, 27 and a stay bar 36 is put into its operative state by extension of a piston and cylinder unit 35 constituting bracing means to move the side members 26, 27 apart to the maximum extent as determined by chains 45, the guiding device between roof supports 1b, 1a remaining inoperative. A piston and cylinder unit 7b forming traction means is then pressurized to draw the support 1b forward, props 2b, 3b being lowered while props 2c, 3c are extended. The lower side face of base 10b remains in contact with the side member 26, due to the sloping floor, Fig. 8, and moves along a path determined by this member. The support units may be two-part. The bracing means may be manually adjustable instead of power operated and more than one such means may be used, Figs. 15, 14, respectively (not shown). Interconnected upper and lower guiding devices, with variable separation, may be provided as shown in Fig. 1.
