Abstract

1,065,101. Mineface conveyers. DOWTY MINING EQUIPMENT Ltd. Dec. 20, 1965 [Jan. 6, 1965], No. 601/65. Heading B8A. [Also in Division E1] If a conveyer 1 " creeps " along a working face 2 and displaces advancing jacks 6 relative to roof supports 3, the jacks are brought back to their correct attitude relative to the conveyer 1 by means of jacks 14, 16 and chains 12. Each advancing jack 6 is connected to a bracket 9 which is slidably mounted on a rail 11 secured to the conveyer 1. Assuming that the mine floor is sloping downwardly left to right in the drawing, the jack 16 is first contracted by an amount equal to that by which the conveyer has crept and the first group of three brackets 9 is slid along the rail 11. The first jack 14, which at this stage is unpressurized, is thus extended. After locking the jack 16 the first jack 14 is contracted by the creep amount to slide the brackets 9 of the next group along the conveyer. The other jacks 14 are similarly operated one after the other. The roof supports can then be advanced in the usual way. The relatively long stroke of the jack 16 enables several adjusting operations to be carried out before the jack 16 becomes fully contracted. In an alternative, the cylinder of each adjusting jack is secured, for example, to a rope or chain which extends along the rail 11 and which is anchored to a device which does not creep with the conveyer.
