Abstract
1315295 Mining machines EICKHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK U EISENGIESSEREI mbH Gebr 19 April 1971 [24 Feb 1970] 22279/71 Heading E1F In longwall mining using a machine which has two cutting heads so as to work in opposite directions and which is guided on or over a face conveyor which curves to lie, at least at its discharge end, parallel to a gallery axis, the mineral adjacent the or each conveyor curve is mined by the leading head of the approaching machine which is connected at such a distance from and in such a manner to the machine body, adapted to travel only on or over the straight conveyor portion, that the head can be pushed around the conveyor curve. A mining machine body 9, Fig. 1, has cutting heads 13 each having a cutting drum 16 supported on vertically adjustable arm 15 and each driven by a motor 14. Body 9 and heads 13 travel on conveyor 1. Heads 13 are each pivotally coupled to body 9 by a hollow coupling rod 25. The length of rods 25 is such that when body 9 reaches the end of the straight portion of the conveyor the leading cutter drum lies against the gallery face. The drum driving motors may be situated on body 9, driving the drums via articulated shafts passing through rods 25. Heads 13 are supported on conveyor 1, Fig. 5, by skids 12, 40, and are guided by guides 38, 41 which engage conveyor guide rails 10 and which are pivotable about a vertical axis. The face-side guides 38 may move, with their pivot pins 36, transverse to the direction of machine movement. When the conveyor has only one curve, the head which does not enter a curve is supported on body 9.
