Abstract
991,582. Mineral mining. DEMAG AG., and HAMBORNER-BERGBAU AG. Oct. 29, 1962 [Oct. 28, 1961], No. 40868/62. Heading E1F. A modified form of stall and pillar mining comprises forming inbye from a drift 1 at an edge of a panel of a seam to be mined a stall 3 having a face 4 of saw tooth formation. To the rearmost inclined wall of the face is applied a mining machine 5 which is advanced through a curve out of the drift over suitable guiding means 11 to engage the inclined wall at right angles and enter the seam in a curve to eventually drive a heading at right angles to the drift. The self propelled machine comprises a cutter unit 5 having retractable hewing arms 5a, 5b and a conveyer 9. At the completion of the heading the hewing arms 5a, 5b are swung outwards before the machine is withdrawn so that as the machine is withdrawn the heading is laterally enlarged, the pillar remote from the direction of mining advance through the panel being completely or partially mined out. As the machine returns to the curved entry into the seam the hewing arm 5b is retracted so that a sickle shaped pillar 7 is left adjacent the drift. When the machine is withdrawn from the seam on to the guiding and supporting platform structure positioned in the drift the structure is advanced so that the cycle of operations can be repeated on the next inclined wall of the stall. The platform structure consists of a bridge straddling a conveyer extending through the drift and a track-carrying platform having a laterally pivotable nose section. Means for vertically adjusting the platform and anchoring the structure in the drift are provided.
