Abstract

1,103,765. Mineral mining machinery. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 18 June, 1965 [24 March, 1964], No. 12399/64. Heading E1F. A double ended plough body is formed in two hollow parts providing compartments 6 for accommodating removable weights (not shown) to selectively increase or decrease the mass of the plough body to enable changes in the inertia of the moving plough to be made in accordance with changes in the resistance to stripping offered by the mineral. The body may, alternatively, be solid and have removable parts to alter the mass. The plough body is mounted on an armoured conveyor 10 and retained thereby plates 11 on the goaf side and by a curved plate 12 embracing a chain guide tube 13 on the face side of the conveyor. The underside 16 of the plough is of inverted U- shape to form a conveying tunnel 17 for the mineral above the conveyor and at least some of the cutter blades 8 are mounted on vertical pivot pins 7 and horizontal members 9.
